Welcome to the Sullivan Town Office
Welcome to Sullivan! I would like to tell you a few things about our town.
If you need to register your vehicles, get hunting and fishing licenses, register to vote, obtain certified copies of vital static records, register your dogs, ATV’s, snowmobiles, boats, purchase transfer station trash bag stickers, pay your taxes, obtain a building permit, or get other services offered by the Town, you will need to come to the Town Office located at 1888 U S Highway 1. The hours are Monday – Thursday, 8:00-4:00 and Friday 8:00-12:00.
Our tax year is July 1 to June 30. Tax bills are mailed out only once a year in September. We offer a 2% discount if paying your taxes in full within 90 days, interest starts accruing in 120 days.
The annual town meeting is held the last Monday in June of each year. Voting for local town officials is done by secret ballot during state elections held in June. If there is no state election, voting is done on the day of town meeting from 1:00 – 6:00 PM at the Sullivan Town Office. The annual town meeting is held at the Sorrento Sullivan Recreation Center at 7:00 PM. All State and Federal Elections are held at the Sullivan Town Office.
The Sullivan Transfer Station is located at 44 Transfer Station Road off the Tunk Lake Road. It is open every Sunday from 8:00 – 12:00 & 1:00 – 4:00 and on Wednesdays from mid June until September from 1:00 – 5:00. A sticker is required from the Town Office for admittance to the transfer station. We have a pay by bag system, the fee is $1.50 for each bag up to 25 pounds. Stickers must be purchased at the Sullivan Town Office or can be purchased through the mail. There is a recycling trailer located at the transfer station for aluminum cans, glass, cardboard, newspaper, plastics #2 and returnable cans and bottles (returnable cans and bottles are donated to the playground fund). There is no fee for recyclables. Recyclable items may also be taken directly to Coastal Recycling in Hancock.
Frenchman Bay Library and the Sullivan Sorrento Historical Society is located at the Sorrento Sullivan Recreation Center. The Sorrento Sullivan Recreation is home to a weekly bingo game. Tuesday nights, 6:00 PM, benefits the Sullivan Volunteer Fire Department.
The Town has a number of meetings open to the public each month including the selectmen’s, school committee and planning board meetings. We invite you to become familiar with local government, the services provided, and the opportunities for citizen participation.
